An Hai Temple

An Hai Temple, originally built in 1820, is located on the southern side of the island. Despite several repairs and upgrades, the temple architecture—featuring the Nguyen dynasty’s architecture style of  subtle carvings on wooden frames— has remained. It’s one of the best example of a preserved temple in Quang Ngai Province.

The temple includes three large buildings: an entrance, the main hall and rear house connected by doorways. They are arranged in three parallel lines–a typical architectural layout of the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century.

Local people dedicated the temple to the deities of Lady Po Inu Nagar and Lady Ngung Man, Viet divinities of  Heaven and Land, first land-reclaimers and ancestors of the families. The worship of Champa and Viet goddesses is an interesting combination of these two cultures, which is typical in village temples on Ly Son.

Also in the temple compound are buildings worshipping the first seven families, floating souls, Lady Po Inu Nagar, Bui Ta Han, and the well.

Communal activities such as the planting of the universe pole, groundbreaking, boat racing of the four beasts, commemoration of the first land-claimers, safety worshipping, the Fest to Paracel Flotilla, and others are held at this temple.

The Vietnamese Government recognized An Hai Temple as a National Cultural-Historic Monument in 1997.
